A little history about Tarot.

The modern Tarot deck consists of 78 cards. 22 cards are known as the Major Arcana – meaning “Greater Secrets,” and 56 Minor Arcana – meaning “Lesser Secrets.” The Major Arcana are used to represent the larger aspects in your life, the big events, portrayed by such cards as The Fool, The Empress, The Sun and Moon. The Minor Arcana deal more with the day to day events in a persons life. In the Minor Arcana there are four suits, the Wands, Pentacles, Swords and Cups. The Wands represent your inner world of ambition, drive , desire. The Pentacles represent your outer world, health, finances, work, creativity. The Swords represent ones mental consciousness, intellect, thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs, and the Cups represent love, feelings, relationships and connections.

The earliest existing deck of Tarot cards date from 1392. They began being used for divination in the 18th century.

Oracle Cards

Oracle Cards originated in Western Europe in the early 19th century. Used as a divinatory tool, they differ from the Tarot because they can have any number of cards in a deck, and can have many different themes. They are considered as accurate and as powerful as Tarot cards when used in divination readings.

The Readings

There are many spreads used with the cards to do a reading. It depends on the reader and the information a person seeks. The most important aspect is in how the question is asked and the ability of the reader to interpret the information the cards portray. Usually one or two questions at most is optimum for a clear message. Readers often smudge the cards to clear and cleanse any previous energy. Many use “singing bowls,” burn sage, herbs, woods, or candles as well. Readings can be about any concern: love, job, health, family, relocations or just a general message. The question/s must be related to the client for the message that comes through is for them and them alone.
